Abstract
680,299. Aerials. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Feb. 19, 1951 [Feb. 18, 1950], No. 4208/50. Class 40 (vii). A unipole aerial includes the standard of a standard lamp or part of it. Such an aerial is suitable for receiving television signals and may comprise a metal tubular standard 2 carrying a lamp-holder 3 and shade support 4. The standard is mounted in an insulated base 1 and mains leads are taken from the lamp-holder through the standard and out of the base to a mains plug in the usual way. A coaxial cable 5 connecting the aerial to the receiver is also led into the base 1 and has its inner conductor connected to the standard 2. The shade support may be an electrical extension of the aerial or insulated therefrom according to the length required. The outer conductor of the coaxial cable 5 is connected to a coiled conductor 6 a quarter-wavelength long which may consist of 1<SP>1</SP>/ 3 turns of flat turn cable with the ends joined. The coil may be inside, above, or below, the base 1. In a modification, the base 1 may be dispensed with and the spiral conductor 6 made strong enough to itself support the standard and lamp. Instead of a spiral coil 6 a pair of helical coils 7 arranged coaxially and horizontally in or on the base 1 may be used; each coil having an electrical length of #/4. A further pair of coils 8 at right angles to the first may be added. Should the length of aerial required be less than the light of the standard the desired length may be isolated from rest by the insertion of an insulating member.
