Abstract
641,349. Two-part couplings. K.L.G. SPARKING PLUGS, Ltd. June 25, 1946, No. 19009. [Class 38 (i)] [Also in Groups X and XL (c)] In a plug-and-socket arrangement for con necting a screened lead-in cable to ar aerial (see Group XL (c)) the cable com prises a central con ductor 39 surroundec by insulation 40 anc an outer screen of braided metal wire 41 surrounded by ar outer insulating cover 42. The inner con ductor terminates in a nipple 43 which has a shoulder 44 and this end is mounted in an insulating tube 50. The metal screen is opened out over a metal tube 45 and a ferrule 46 is provided around it, the sheath being soldered to the parts 45 and 46, and these parts are also secured to the insulating tube 50 so that the end of the cable provides two exposed contacts, i.e. the nipple 43 and the ferrule 46, which are spaced apart longitudinally. The end of the cable fits into a cylindrical hole in an insulating block 13 which is provided with two slots 47, 48 transverse to the hole containing spring fingers 49 and 53 which make contact respectively with the shoulder 44 of nipple 43 and the ferrule 46 thus preventing the cable from being withdrawn until the spring finger 49 is depressed clear of shoulder 44.
