Abstract
842,533. Aerials. TELEFUNKEN G.m.b.H. Feb. 2, 1959 [Feb. 13, 1958] No. 3658/59. Class 40(7). An aerial tunable over a small range of frequencies comprises a helical conductor mounted on a rod of insulating material and provided with a conductive member in capacity coupled relationship with the conductor and movable along it, the member being connected to a real or virtual point of reference potential. In a first embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), the conductor is connected to the inner conductor of a coaxial feeder, the outer conductor and the conductive member being earthed. The invention as applied to a dipole aerial, Fig. 2, comprises two conductive members 3, 3<SP>1</SP> mounted on the rods 1, 1<SP>1</SP> supporting the helical conductors 2, 2<SP>1</SP>. The slidable members are connected together, and the conductors taken to a feeder 5<SP>1</SP>. The third embodiment, Fig. 3, is an aerial suitable for mounting on a mast and consists of a vertical unit, forming the aerial and having the helical conductor 2 connected to the inner conductor of a coaxial cable, and a number of similar units, which form a counterpoise system. The various conductive members are connected to earth via the outer conductor of the feeder and a capacitor 8 assists in matching the aerial to the feeder.
