Abstract

1,061,752. Aerials. J-BEAM AERIALS Ltd., and B. SYKES. April 20, 1964 [May 6, 1963], No. 17788/63. Heading H4A. [Also in Division H1] An aerial consists of a balanced radiating element such as a folded dipole 10 having a housing 11 for the connection to a feeder cable F which is unbalanced or unmatched with respect to the element 10, the housing 11 having an insulating plate 15 with discrete areas 16 and 17 thereon of metal deposited by printed circuit techniques, these areas connecting the feeder cable F to the element 10 and constituting a matching transformer. In the arrangement shown, each end 10a of the folded dipole is connected through a terminal 12 and 12a respectively to a conducting strip 17 of the printed circuit forming one winding of the transformer. The inner conductor C of coaxial feeder F is connected to one end of the strip 17 via the terminal 12a and the outer screen conductor S of the feeder F is connected to the conducting area 16 of the printed circuit by an angle bracket 14 and nut 13, the area 16 being separated from the strip 17 by an insulating area I. Other arrangements of transformer winding may be used to give for example 1/1 balance to balance or 4/1 balance to unbalance. The element 10 may be provided with directors and/or reflectors.
