Abstract
598,548. Aerials. O'BRIEN, W. J., and DECCA RECORD CO., Ltd. Dec. 1, 1944, No. 24086. [Class 40 (v)] A broad band antenna comprises a supporting structure, such as poles 10 and cross-members 13, 14, and 15, either of insulating material or suitably insulated conductors, arranged to carry an upper assemblage of conductors, each extending in a vertical direction and spaced around a vertical axis, which conductors are connected at their lower ends to downwardlyextending and converging conductors 12, the extremities of which are connected to a transmitter output and the lengths of which are such that the converging conductors form at least half the total height of the antenna. The antenna conductors may be thin-walled tubes and the antenna height is preferably a quarter of the wavelength used, in which case a series condenser 16 is required to raise the resonance frequency. A metal sheet 18 can be placed under the antenna and used to form one half of a dipole by reflections. Specifications 17708/02, [Class 40], and 524,457 are referred to.
