Abstract
644,434. Bearings. ROZIERES, J. A. L. Sept. 12, 1947, No. 25111. Convention date, Sept. 17, 1946. [Class 12 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] Rolls 6 mounted in needle bearings 2, 3 are characterized in that one of the journals 8 is provided with a thrust bearing 29, 31, 33, spring-urged into position in the bearing support 1 which is contained in the mill housing columns 12-15 between a stationary abutment 17 and spring-pressed abutment 18, which may be composed of Belleville washers. The springs 22 and 35 are designed to withstand axial thrusts due to inclinations of needle rollers and pass sections and hence the roll 6 has no end play. In a modification the block 1 comprises two members corresponding each to one of the journals 7, 8, that member supporting the thrust bearing being mounted in a similar fashion to block 1. In a further modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), rolls inclined at 45 degrees have a single thrust bearing, a spring being compressed between the said bearing and the adjacent needle bearing.
