529,735. Rollers. SEDZIMIR, T., (known as SENDZIMIR, T.). May 25, 1939, No. 15531. [Class 42 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXII and XIII] Deflection of the rolls of a rolling mill is compensated for by interposing between the roll shell 3 and the roll shaft 1 an intermediate shell 2 e.g. of softer cast iron and thicker at the ends or by cutting annular end grooves 2, Fig. 2, whereby the outer shell can deflect more at the ends to be equal to the deflection in the middle. In cluster mills the support rolls 5, Fig. 6, are hollowed out increasingly towards their ends 4 to provide end yielding. The support rollers may comprise a series of separated rings on a spindle the rings of the corresponding support roller being staggered in relation to the rings of the other support roller.
