Abstract
395,616. Rolling. SKERRETT, H. N., 24, Temple Row, Birmingham.-(Timken Roller Bearing Co. ; Denber Avenue, Canton, Ohio, U.S.A.) Jan. 19, 1933, No. 1761. [Class 83 (iv).] The working rolls 2 of a mill are backed by roller shells 3 of the same length and mounted by roller bearings, at each end and in the middle, on shafts 7 carried by the side frames. The roller bearings are double conical and are spaced apart by sleeves 37 so that play can be taken up on all the bearings at once by adjusting the end plates 26 by shims. The ends of the shaft 7 are mounted in boxes 8 in the side frames. The shafts can be withdrawn axially to allow easy removal of the backing roller shells. The space between the bearings may contain lubricant fed through a bore 28 in the axle which also may be in circulation for cooling.
