Abstract

[Class 108(iii)] [Also in Group XL(a)] A spring for tensioning the filament of a miniature thermionic valve comprises a bundle of wires 30 bound with finer wire 31 and formed into a single turn helix, the force exerted being a spreading one between the projecting ends 32. In manufacture, nine tungsten wires and one copper wire, all 50 microns in diameter, are bound with tungsten wire 10 microns in diameter, and the copper wire is dissolved out to permit limited relative movement of the remaining wires.
