Abstract

643,502. Chimneys. ALTMANN, J. Nov. 1, 1947, No. 29219. Convention date, March 19, 1946. [Class 25] A hollow brick inside which flue pipes are held fast by webs is provided with at least one web with a face tangential to the circumference of the flue pipe and oblique with respect to the wall of the brick, the flue pipe having axial protuberances which on turning the pipe may be arranged to bear against the tangential face of the web. A flue pipe 5 is disposed within the hollow brick 1 so that axial protuberances 6 bear against webs 4 one of which is provided with an oblique projection 7 having a tangential face. One corner is combined with a web 4a to form a double chamber 3 used for connecting the hollow brick 1 to brickwork. One wall of the chamber 3 may be oblique as shown by dotted lines 8. More than one flue pipe 5 may be disposed within the hollow brick 1, in which case the oblique web having a face tangential to the flue is in the form of a partition oblique along part of its length. In setting up a chimney stack using bricks and flue pipes according to the invention, joins between the flue pipes are made at the centre of each hollow brick 1, the hollow remaining between the pipe and the brick usually being filled with concrete, course by course.
