[Class 87 (i)] [Also in Group XI] In a closed solid fuel stove having a refractory lining, part of the latter is constituted by flues each comprising a vertical tier of hollow blocks, the abutting faces of the inner walls of the blocks having cut-away portions which co-operate to form horizontal slots through which the gases distilled from the fuel column pass into the flue where they are burnt with air passing upwardly from the ashpit. Figs. 2, 3 show a circular stove in which the lining consists of arcuate blocks 41, 42 and oppositely disposed flues built up of tiers of hollow blocks 26 each having radial end walls 30, 31 and a flat inner wall 29, the latter being formed on its upper and lower faces with indentations 40, 40<1> which co-operate when the blocks are assembled to form the horizontal slots 39. The outer faces and top surface of each block 26 are formed with grooves 41<1> to provide weak points which fracture under uneven expansion and so prevent disruption of the whole lining. In the modification shown in Fig. 5 the stove is of square section with the tiers of hollow flue blocks 51 arrange in the corners and separated by the lining slabs 50.
