642,267. Electric condensers. MICAFIL AKT.-GES. Feb. 19, 1948, No. 4961. Convention date, Feb. 19, 1947. [Class 37] Condensers of the type comprising metallic layers with oil-impregnated layers of insulating material inserted between the metallic layers, the whole being wound into a roll which is generally pressed flat, are strengthened by the insertion of extra dielectric at the marginal regions. In order to strengthen these marginal regions as compared with the middle portion of the condenser at least one layer of insulating material is inserted in both marginal regions of the condenser between two full-width layers of metallic material. In Fig. 1 an intermediate layer R1 is inserted in the border regions between full-width layers D1 and D2 of insulating material within the metallic layers B1 and B2. Continuous layers of insulating material D3 and D4 are provided above B1 and below B2 respectively and an intermediate layer R2 above the insulating layer D3. In order that after winding an intermediate border layer is always between all windings of the metallic layers. In order to avoid breakage of the layers when the condenser is pressed flat after winding, as shown in Fig. 14, the intermediate layers R1 may be varied in length to provide a gradual radius at the transition from the middle to the end portions. 'Various numbers and arrangements of intermediate layers may be made to meet different voltage requirements. A number of condensers may be stacked as shown in Fig. 16.
