Abstract
775,842. Capacitors. BRITISH DIELECTRIC RESEARCH, Ltd. May 23, 1955 [May 24, 1954], No. 15262/54. Class 37. In a wound type capacitor the dielectric comprises at least one layer of polystyrene and at least one layer of polyethylene terephthalate. In one embodiment the capacitor is made by winding a group of layers consisting of an electrode layer, a polystyrene film, a second electrode layer and a polyethylene terephthalate film; in a second embodiment the capacitor is made by winding together two groups of layers each consisting of an electrode layer, a polystyrene film and a polyethylene terephthalate film. In the latter embodiment further auxiliary electrodes, not connected to an external terminal may be arranged between the polystyrene and polyethylene terephthalate films. The electrodes may take the forms of metal coatings on the dielectric films; conversely the dielectric layers may be deposited as coatings on the metal layers. The capacitor may be impregnated with a suitable liquid or with a cold-setting or heat-setting insulating compound.
