Abstract

640,135. Stoppers. LAYTON, D. A., and BELL, J. W. July 6, 1948, No. 18145. [Class 125 (iii)] A vacuum closure to be used in fruit bottling &c. comprises a flexible cap 1, with conical skirt 2, a sealing ring 6, a clip member 9 with inturned ends 10 to engage the rim 3 of the container and a member 12 to tension said spring clip. The cap may be fitted on the interior of a 21b. jar or be inserted over the exterior of a 11b. jar, the sealing ring 6 lying between the cap and rim. The member 12 is of S-form, the lower end of the larger loop being placed between two projections 8 in the cap 1, the member being rotated to a vertical position to engage the part 13 with an indentation 11 in the clip 9. Pressure is thus applied to the cap through the larger loop of the member 12. When the cap is inverted over the exterior of a 11b. container the smaller loop of the S-shaped member is used to tension the clip. The sealing ring 6 is retained within the cap 1 by an inturned lip 7.
