660,173. Packing under special atmospheric conditions; containers. PIRELLI SOC. PER AZIONI. June 1, 1949 [June 19, 1948], No. 14747. Classes 66 and 94(i) [Also in Group XV] Articles such as tennis balls are stored in a container comprising a body part 1 and a closure member 2 fitted with a sealing ring 7 adapted to engage the body part, the member 2 being moved relative to the part 1 during the closing operation to decrease the internal volume of the container and cause a corresponding increase in the pressure of the air therein. The internal diameter of the ring is less than the external diameter of the part 1 so that the ring is distorted axially during the closing movement to provide an effective seal. The lower end of the member 2 is flared outwardly and its edge is spun over to provide an annular recess for the reception of a head on the ring. The closed position of the member 2 is detemined by spring clips 11 on the part 1 which engage over the rounded edge of the member. The part 1 is formed with a groove 10 which serves to reverse the inclination of the sealing ring and break the seal during the initial movement of the member 2 to open the container.
