Abstract

639,355. Lap-forming apparatus. KNOWLES, Ltd., and GODDARD, M. March 15, 1948, No. 7742. [Classes 120 (i) and 120 (iii)] Lap bobbins are centralised in sliver or ribbon lap machines by means comprising flanges a separate from the bobbin b, which is journalled revolubly on short spindles f capable of inward and outward movements by right and left hand screw threads turned by an operating handle j secured to the spindles f, racks i being suspended from the spindles f by, annular casings h<SP>1</SP> in which spindle bearings are located. The casings h<SP>1</SP> are arranged for outward movement to allow the spindles and flanges to separate from the bobbin when the latter is full. For this purpose, casings h<SP>1</SP> are provided with trunnions k with rollers on, which move in vertical grooves m in fixed brackets m<SP>1</SP>. At the upper end, each groove m is widened at n, to permit the trunnions k to move away from the bobbin. The bobbin has outer roller races c located at its opposite ends and inner roller races e are secured at the ends of spindles f. Specification 622,578 is referred to.
