Abstract

1,167,586. Yard winding apparatus. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 20 Aug., 1968 [5 Sept., 1967], No. 40456/67. Heading D1J. A supply of empty bobbins 21 is available in the magazine 19 and are picked up by bobbin carrying means 15<SP>1</SP>, 15<SP>2</SP>, 15<SP>3</SP>, 15<SP>4</SP> equidistantly spaced around and pivotally mounted in an indexing cage 13. When any one of said bobbin carrying means is adjacent a drive roll 1 resilient means associated with the bobbin carrying means causes the bobbin carried thereby to be urged into driving contact with the drive roll. The cage 13 is formed with slots to permit the bobbin axes to move relatively to the cage as the package increases in diameter. An arcuate shroud 29 prevents the bobbins from dropping out of the slots in the cage 13 whilst travelling from the donning station 15<SP>1</SP> to the doffing station 15<SP>4</SP>. There may be handles 39 to permit manual rotation of the cage 13. The apparatus permits a plurality of drive rolls 1 to be mounted on a first common axis and a plurality of associated cages to be mounted on a further common axis.
