Abstract

1314440 Pressing CELANESE CORP 21 Dec 1970 [30 Dec 1969] 60503/70 Heading D1J A plurality of yarns are laid by a traversing guide 24 on a drive roller 10, and wound on at least two bobbins 56, 58 in contact with the roller, so that the bobbins are displaced as the packages grow, and a predetermined pressing force relationship is maintained between each package and the drive roll. The bobbins are mounted on carriages 60, 62 slidable along bars 64, and carrying cams 68, 70 which are pressed by spring biassed levers 74 to effect the pressure control. The carriages may be manually disengaged from the drive roll to assist donning and doffing. A preferred pressure relationship using a 4-inch diameter package former commences at 7 lb. and is increased to 8 lb. after 1¢" of yarn is wound, then decreased to 3¢ lb. after a further 2", and finally decreased to 2¢ lb when the final 12" diameter is reached.
