Abstract

1,139,788. Slub yarns. CELANESE CORP. 13 Dec., 1967, No. 56557/67. Headings DID, D1F and D1W. Slub yarns are produced by feeding to a twisting zone a roving - for example of polyethylene terephthalate fibres - at a first speed, and at least two ends of yarn - for example of cellulose acetate filaments, or of staple fibres - at a speed sufficiently greater than the speed of the roving so that the roving is pulled apart into discrete segments held in place as slubs by the twisting of the yarn ends about them. The apparatus used comprises a ring and spindle as the twisting means, and for each feeding means a roller resting on and driven by two driven rollers. At least one further yarn end may be twisted around the slub yarn preferably before it is fully twisted.
