Abstract

1,231,198. Forming twisted yarn from discrete fibres. T.M.M. (RESEARCH) Ltd. 30 Aug., 1968 [11 Sept., 1967], No. 41405/67. Heading D1D. Twisted yarn is formed from discrete fibres by feeding the fibres (via duct 13) onto a moving surface 14 at a deposition zone, restraining the deposited fibres at a withdrawal zone spaced from the deposition zone to form a tail end of a yarn which is continuously withdrawn in a direction other than that of the moving surface, whereby the fibres being drawn into the tail end of the yam are twisted about the axis of the yarn by their frictional contact with the moving surface 14 the tail end of the yarn can be restrained by a roller 16 rotating in the opposite direction to the moving surface. The fibres can be held on the moving surface during their travel between the zones either by the effect of suction or by an electrostatic field. The moving surface may be a rotating disc 14, in which case the roller is of conical shape 16 having its apex coincident with the rotary axis of the disc, or may be a rotating cylinder (31) with a cylindrical roller (41) arranged parallel therewith (Fig. 5). A false twister 44 may be arranged between the withdrawal zone and the take off rollers (45, 46).
