943,295. Spinning yarns. BRITISH NYLON SPINNERS Ltd. June 12,1962 [July 28, 1961], No. 27348/61. Heading D1D. Means for winding yarn on to a bobbin on a rotating spindle comprises a member, with an internally-grooved central aperture surrounding the bobbin, and an inner resiliently flexible ring 3, circular when undistorted, but capable of flexing in the plane of its circle and adapted to be retained by the groove to which it conforms over a major arc of the circumference of the flexible ring and constrains the ring to roll in a circle in a flexed condition under the pull of the yarn, part of the circumference of the ring being in contact with the bottom of the groove and the remainder separated therefrom by a gap through which the yarn passes in contact with the periphery of the flexed ring. The grooved member may be a ring or a square or other plate, and may be in one piece or in three superposed parts as shown, the inner one being recessed from the others to form the groove and the upper wall of the groove being shorter than the lower wall; the groove may be rectangular as shown or otherwise, and the bottom of the groove at 8 may be straight or otherwise. The ring may be rectangular in crosssection with one or both ends rounded, and its diameter when undistorted may be smaller, equal to or greater than the diameter of the bottom of the groove. When the ring is smaller than the groove it rotates slowly in a direction opposite to that in which it rolls in the groove; if it is the same size as the groove it does not rotate; if it is larger it rotates in the same direction as it rolls. The ring and the member(s) forming the groove may be of steel, chromium plated or not, nickel-chrome-molybdenum steel, aluminium, "Duralumin" (Registered Trade Mark) titanium, nylon or p.t.f.e. For threading-up the grooved member(s) may be provided with an oblique slot or a large hole leading by an oblique slot to the groove, while, to assist the insertion of the ring one of the flanges of the groove may be recessed. The plate 4 or the spindle or both may be traversed.
