Abstract

Winding-machines; creel arrangements. - A spindle for winding and unwinding bobbins, spools, &c. and which is carried at each end in a support from which it is removable for charging the bobbin, comprises a non-rotating shank a, Fig. 1, and a rotatable sleeve d supported on tubular members e, f mounted thereon, axial movement of the sleeve d being substantially prevented by flanges on the members e, g. The space between the shank a and sleeve d is filled with lubricant m. The members e, f may be integral with the shank a, Fig. 2, or may be formed of solid lubricant, e.g. graphite, soapstone, oiled guaiacum wood, &c. Alternatively, the members e, f may be supported on ballbearings, while the said members may also be fixed to the sleeve d. In a further modification, a thicker shank a is used having cavities, e.g. annular grooves or channels, to hold the lubricant.
