Abstract

617,054. Winding bobbins. SOC. RHODIACETA. March 16, 1942, No. 3459. Convention date, March 18, 1941. [Class 120(ii)] A slit or groove-drum traverse mechanism for the formation of regular crosswindings of threads on bobbins or like supports comprises a member located between the drum guide and the receiving support and whereon the thread bears, this member being provided with ends inclined to the longitudinal axis of the drum, so sloped that no sliding of the thread will take place at the ends of the winding. As shown, the said member is constituted by a plate 10 with chamfered ends 12 located between the point 5 at which the thread leaves a slot 3 in the drum 2 and the point 9 at which it contacts the bobbin 6. Ends 12 are so sloped that the resultant thrust P of the thread, which is obliquely inclined at the point of reversal, will not cause the thread to slip on the plate edge as it passes from one side of the slot 3 to the other. A cylindrical roller with conical ends may replace plate 10 and may be used to drive the bobbin 6. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also an arrangement for ensuring regularity of the central portion of the winding by providing two guide rods inside the drum, one attached to each end of the drum, located so that the portion of each rod which is visible through the slot is close to one of the reversal points and behind this point relative to the direction of rotation of the drum. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
