Abstract
639,187. Ordnance. JANUSZEWSKI, K., and MITCHELL, S. S. C. Jan. 21, 1946, No. 2052. [Class 92 (ii)] Relates to cartridge extractor mechanism of the kind in which the arm 4 on the pivoted extractor 1 is operated, on opening the breech, by a projection 7 on a cam 2 rotatable with the breech-block A about the axis 3 of the hinge-pin of the breech-block carrier. According to the invention, the cam 2 is mounted as a strap on an eccentric sheave 5 on the carrier and is retained by a catch (not shown) during the initial opening of the breech so as to move bodily to bring its projection 7 into contact with the extractor arm 4. As the breech continues to open, the cam 2 is positively rotated by projections 10, 11 on the carrier and the retaining catch is forcibly released. The projections 10, 11 engage projections 8, 9 on the cam and the projection 7 first acts on the surface x of the extractor arm 4 to extract the cartridge case and then on the projection 14 to eject the case. The extractor may have two arms 4 each operated by a separate eccentric cam device.
