636,790. Refrigerating. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 3, 1948, No. 12113. Convention date, May 5, 1947. [Class 29] Refrigerating apparatus comprises a primary compression system having two evaporators 3, 4 in series connection with a constant backpressure valve 8 between them and a secondary system having its condenser portion 18 in contact with the constant pressure evaporator 3. The evaporator 4 may be used to cool a freezing chamber and the evaporator 19 of the secondary system to cool a food-storage chamber. The compressor 1 is controlled in accordance with the temperature of the evaporator 4. So that the evaporator 19 may defrost quickly during idle periods, the evaporator 3 is of small thermal mass and slopes considerably so as not to retain liquid refrigerant.
