Abstract
654,278. Refrigerating systems. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 7, 1948, No. 18317. Convention date, July 8, 1947. [Class 29] [Also in Group XXIX] In a refrigerator having a freezing compartment cooled by a primary circuit and a cooling compartment cooled by a secondary circuit whose condenser is arranged in heat transfer relationship with the primary evaporator, operation of the secondary circuit on a defrosting cycle is effected by a snap acting valve disposed between the evaporator and the condenser of the secondary circuit and responsive to the refrigerant pressure in that circuit. The valve comprises a bellows 23 whose upper free end is connected by a member 27, 28 having arms 29, 30, and a bowed spring strip 31, to a valve member 19 controlling the outlet 10. A stop 37 for the valve member when in its open position causes, upon contraction of the bellows, deformation of the strip 31 beyond a dead-centre position whereupon the strip operates to close the valve. A stop 36 limits the upward movement of the valve member to permit subsequent opening thereof. The bellows is loaded externally by gas in a chamber 24. In a modification, the spring strip is connected directly to the bellows and the member 28 to the valve member, the member 28, in this case, moving between stops.
