Abstract

635,456. Window operating means. GIBBONS, Ltd., J., and GIBBONS, P. E. April 20, 1948, No. 10863. [Class 20 (iii)] A pair of pivoted window sashes are coupled together to open or close in unison by means comprising a bracket arm secured to one of the sashes and drilled to take a bolt which extends to present a transverse hole on one side and receive a nut at the other side of the arm, with a plain rod constituting the coupling link extending through the transverse hole and clamped therein by the nut, which is free to turn in the hole in the arm. In the form shown, sashes a and b are pivoted one above the other in a frame c. A bracket arm d is provided on each sash, a bolt e extending through a hole drilled in each arm and presenting a transverse hole f on one side thereof. A nut g with a sleeve g<SP>1</SP> of sufficient bore diameter to slide over the head of bolt e, of external diameter such as to be free to rotate in the hole in the bracket arm and of length slightly exceeding the thickness of the arm, engages each bolt. A plain rod h extends through the holes f and may be clamped therein by tightening the nuts g, the effective length of the rod being easily adjustable.
