Abstract

- 590,399. Handle-bars. RENAUX, E. P., and RENAUX, L. J. April 19, 1945, No. 9880. Convention date, May 4, 1943. [Class 136 (iii)] In an adjustable handle-bar for bicycles and the like of the kind comprising a stem 2 on which are pivoted two ferrules 5, 6, respectively, connected to the branches 11, 12 of the handle-bar and having sets of teeth 7, 8 in meshing engagement, and means, such as a wing nut 21, for locking the branches in the selected position, the bearing surface a, b of the stem against which the ferrules pivot is inclined to the vertical, so that pivoting movement of the ferrules about studs 3, 4 causes a displacement of the handles which modifies the horizontal distance thereof from the rod 1 of the handle-bar. In adjustment, perforations 22 in the ferrules co-operate with spring-pressed balls 24. The branches may be adjustably mounted in the ferrule 5 by being clamped in slotted sleeves 9, 10 by bolts 14. The studs 3, 4 are formed conical to take up play, and contacting surfaces of the ferrules and stem are serrated to prevent slip.
