Abstract

634,971. Lubricating. WILLYS-OVERLAND MOTORS, Inc. Jan. 27, 1948, No. 2451. Convention date, Feb. 18, 1947. [Class 12 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIV] In a transmission system for a motor vehicle comprising a three-speed countershaft gear in a housing 10 and a two-speed gear in a transferbox 15, the housings 10, 15 contain lubricant at different levels and means are provided for maintaining the respective levels constant. Constantly driven gearwheels 72, 82 forming part of the transmission gearing and a shroud 118 having an upper wall 119 and side wall portions 120, form a lubricant collecting zone 126 from which lubricant is discharged into housing 10 through pipes 128, 130. Apertures 116, 135 in the dividing wall 19 allow lubricant to flow from housing 10 back to housing 15. An additional opening 133 is provided in the wall for ventilating purposes.
