Abstract

Casings. - In a lubricating system in which lubricant is supplied to parts to be lubricated by a centrifugal pump a driven by an electric motor b and drawing from a sump s into which oil drains or is discharged from the lubricated parts, the oil is drawn in passing from the sump to the pump through a de-aerating apparatus r of static type, the air-collecting chamber t of which is connected by a pipe 4 to a vacuum pump o driven by worm gearing e, h from the oil pump shaft. Oil entering the casing of the pump a through the suction port w passes to the impeller over a partition 2, whereby any air still contained in the oil is separated and collected in a chamber 6 which communicates with the pipe 4 through a branch 5. A float-operated valve 8 prevents the passage of oil through the branch 5. The pipe 4 may be arranged as shown in dotted lines, so as to prevent oil drawn from the apparatus r from entering the pump o, or the chamber t may be provided with a noat-operated valve for this purpose.
