Driving-gear; casings; force-feed lubricating.- A pumping unit adapted to provide two services of lubricating oil comprises a centrifugal pump a adapted for dealing with the medium-pressure oil supply, this pump being provided with a separating chamber 4 and float gear 6 of the general nature of, and functioning as, that described in Specification 170,494, the impeller being provided with a vertical shaft e that drives a horizontal shaft h through worm gearing d, g, the shaft h having a rotary pump to deal with the high-pressure oil supply and an air pump adapted to withdraw the air from the separating chamber. The pumps for the high-pressure oil supply and for withdrawing air are of the intermeshing toothed wheel type, as shown in Fig. 3. An electric motor c drives the unit. The oil supply enters at x and passes over a weir z into the suction passage which leads to the impeller a. Air which collects in the chamber 4 is withdrawn by the air pump through a float-controlled valve device 6 as described in Specification 170,494. A pipe 5 leads to the air pump, and a pipe 7 forming the suction to the high-pressure pump is connected to the discharge pipe 8 of the medium-pressure pump. Specification 178,733 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
