Abstract
634,659. Pressure cookers &c. KROYER, K. K. K. Feb. 20, 1947, Nos. 4995 and 4996. Convention dates, Jan. 29, 1946 and May 29, 1946. [Class 123(i)] The cover 2 of a pressure cooker &c. is secured to the body portion 1 by a contractile ring 14 which is normally in engagement with teeth 13 spaced around a reinforcing collar 12 on the cover but may be contracted additionally to engage spaced teeth 11 on a body reinforcing collar 10, fluid-tightness between the cover and body being secured by a rubber, etc. packing ring 6 which is subjected to the pressure within the cooker. Contraction of the ring 14 is effected by a rotatable lever 15 which connects the ends of the ring and is operated by a handle 16 locked by a screw plug 17 mounted in the cover in such a manner that it is necessary to remove the plug and so release the cooker pressure before the ring 14 may be expanded to permit removal of the cover. Near the handle 16 a tooth 13 is fitted with a pin 18 for preventing axial displacement of the ring 14, and diametrically opposite the handle 16 the ring 14 is fixed by providing it with a bent-out portion 36 which coacts a locating hole in another tooth 13. The plug 17 may include a safety valve. In a modification, locking is effected by a flat ring which is normally housed within a groove in the cover collar and is contractible also to engage behind a shoulder on the body collar, the two collars fitting in a spigot. and-socket manner.
