Abstract
613,751. Lids for resisting fluid pressure. EASIWORK, Ltd., and EVANS, O. J. July 1, 1946, No. 19589. [Class 123(i)] The lid 10 and body 17 of a pressure cooker, autoclave &c. are locked together by a split spring steel ring 13 which is normally located within a circumferential groove 12 formed in a downturned lip 11 of the lid 10 and is adapted to be displaced inwardly to engage also a groove 20 or shoulder 31 on the body 17. One end 14 of the ring is out-turned to be received by an anchoring hole 15 in the lid, and the other end 16 projects downwardly to mate with a transverse slot 19 in a screw 18 mounted on the body 17 when the lid and body are assembled. The arrangement is such that the ring is distorted into locking position by relative rotation of the lid and body by means of handles 22, 23 thereon respectively which may be latched together by a ring 24 fitted to the handle 22. Fluidtightness between the lid and body is secured by a rubber sealing ring 25 which may be hollow and contain a material adapted to develop gas or vapour when heated. The portion 30 of the body immediately beneath the groove 20 may be cut away to facilitate cleaning. Specification 613,803 is referred to.
