708,197. Pressure cookers. KELLER, M. Jan. 15, 1952 [Jan. 15, 19511, No. 1108/52. Class 123(1) A pressure cooker ,comprising a pot 22 and a lid 21 with mutually engaging lugs 24, 26 respectively, in which the lid 21 has a packing ring 27. is characterized by the pot 22 or the ring 27 having bosses, e.g. 37, which prevent the application of the ring 27 to the sealing surface 23 of the pot 22 until the bosses 37 engage depressions 38 in the ring 27 or the pot 22 respectively. The bosses 37 and depressions 38 engage only when the lid approaches fully closed position, and until this engagement occurs the interior of the pot 22 communicates with the atmosphere. The ring 27 is held in a groove 28 in the lid 21, and has additional bosses which fit in recesses 33 in the lid 21 to locate the ring 27 immovably in the lid. Several modifications are described. The additional bosses may be extended downwardly to carry out the function of the bosses 37 which may or may not be dispensed with, the depressions 38 being suitably shaped, or the depressions 38 may be replaced by edge depressions extending the full width of the wall of the pot 22, or by "windows" 40. In a further modification, the first mentioned bosses may be formed on the pot 22, and the recesses in the ring 27.
