Class 123(i) A vacuum chamber 1 is closed by a lid 2 which is located on a shoulder 1a within the wall of the chamber, the joint 3 between the lid and chamber being covered by a rubber, &c. sealing ring 4, which is compressed by a pressure ring 5 secured to the housing by belts 6. Preferably the sealing ring is inserted in a groove extending across the joint 3, and the pressure ring 5 may have an elevated portion 5a to mate with the said ring 4.
