Abstract
584,346. Joint-making packing. TECALEMIT, Ltd., and LE CLAIR, C. C. S. Nov. 17, 1944, No. 22892. [Classes 122 (iii) and 122 (v)] A flexible sealing ring of the kind used between overlapping parts of two members to one of which fluid is supplied under pressure and the other of which is formed with an annular recess housing the ring, comprises at least one flexible annular locating rib 12, Fig. 3, disposed between, spaced from and integral with two spaced annular flexible sealing lips 10, 11 so as to form two permanently open recesses 13, 14 in the ring between the rib 12 and the lips 10, 11. The lips 10, 11 are pressed by the fluid in the recesses 13, 14 against a side wall 7c of a recess 7 in the cover of a pressure vessel 5 and the vessel wall respectively. The sealing ring may be of rubber, leather or other flexible fluid impermeable material. The locating rib 12 may have spaced slots or holes 15, Fig. 3, to allow passage of pressure fluid from one side of the rib to the other.
