Abstract
641,265. Covers for resisting fluid pressure. PLATERS & STAMPERS, Ltd. (Echo Products Co.). Sept. 16, 1947, No. 25259. [Class 123(i)] A pressure cooker or the like comprises a pot 1 and a cover 6, the wall of the pot 1 having lugs 3 engageable with hook members 7 on the cover upon relative rotary movement between the pot and the cover, and a gasket 20 carried by the cover 6 and engaging the rim 2 of the pot. An equal number of lugs 3 on the rim 2 of the pot 1 and of hook members 7 on a depending wall 4 of the cover 6 are provided. In normal use the cover 6 is simply placed on the pot 1 and rotated until lugs 3 and members 7 engage. To prevent taking off of the cover 6 in the event of a dangerous pressure existing in the pot 1, recesses 10 and 11 are provided in the underside of lugs 3 and in the upper face of members 7 respectively, the ends of these recesses 10 and 11 forming abutment faces. On rotating the cover 6 to take it off, any pressure in the pot 1 will force the flat face of the upper side of member 7 lying outside the area of the recess 11 into the recess 10, so latching the cover 6 to the pot 1.
