Abstract

1,057,959. Lids for cooking vessels. MENDLE BROS. Ltd. June 14, 1965 [June 17, 1964], No. 25111/64. Heading A4A. [Also in Division B8] A bowl for cooking puddings comprises a body 2 and an interlocking lid 4, the body and lid being formed of a heat-resistant thermoplastic material such as polypropylene capable of withstanding immersion in boiling water or use in a pressure cooker. The lid has a peripheral skirt 6 formed with three spaced projections 8 and associated finger grips 12, the projections being engaged beneath, or disengaged from a bead 10 on the body by outward distortion of the skirt by pulling on the lugs 12 in succession. An aperture 14 facilitates distortion of the skirt. A sealing skirt 16 is forced into engagement with the bowl by steam pressure, excess steam pressure raising the lid against the resilient action of the projections 8 so that steam escapes past the skirt 16 and through the apertures 14. In modifications the body is formed of a heat-resistant plastics material and a lug 12 is provided .in association with only two of the projections 8.
