Abstract

1500181 Closure key device CARRIER CORP 6 Jan 1975 [5 April 1974] 439/75 Heading F2P A closure key apparatus for a pressure vessel opening comprises a shear key 39 located in a groove 28 formed in the casing 11 of the pressure vessel, and abutting the radially extending surface 36 of a recess 27 in an end wall closure 26, a support key 40 secured to the closure 26, and raised pads on the shear key 39 which contact the bottom of the groove 28, and the side wall of the groove remote from the closure 26, the pad being so located and dimensioned that moments produced in the shear key by reaction with the casing substantially offset any load induced moments exerted on the shear key by the support key 39 and end wall closure 26. The shear key 39 may be in the form of a segmented ring and the pressure vessel may be the casing of a rotary machine such as a compressor.
