Class 123(1) Relates to pressure cookers of the kind in which the pot 1 and cover 4 are secured together, with the interposition of an expansible gasket 7, Fig. 5, by the engagement of e.g. six spaced inwardly-turned lugs 6 on the cover with a like number of outwardly-turned lugs 3 on the pot. The lugs of, at least, some selected pairs of lugs, such as the four pairs adjacent the pot handle h, two on each side, have operative faces comprising spaced lands 8, 9 and 16, 17 separated by shallow recesses 10, 18, so that, upon rotation of the cover in the opening direction, a land 16 on one lug will be caused to engage the recess 10 on the other, Fig. 3, and prevent further rotation if a substantial pressure exists within the cooker. Further, one of the lugs adjacent the pot handle h, preferably a pot lug 3, is provided with a stop 14, deeper than the recess 10, and the cover lug 6 with a tail portion 20 to mate with a raised surface 21 on the pot, so that a part engagement of the cover and pot, Fig. 4, will merely cause the land 16 of the lug 6 to engage the stop 14 and prevent effective sealing of the cooker until all the lugs are fully engaged and the end of a lug 6 contacts a stop 15 on a lug 3.
