Abstract

639,359. Lids and covers for crates &c. ROSS BROS. (BEN RHYDDING), Ltd., and ROSS, C. R. April 7, 1948, No. 9725. [Class 18] A sheet metal cover 1 for a crate or the like has two opposite edges 2 channelled so as to engage the frame 5 of the crate and is provided with two channels 3 which extend across the cover, one on each side of a centrally formed shallow channel 4. The cover is positioned on the crate by flexing the centre position above the normal plane of the cover to enable the edges 2 to engage the frame 5. The centre portion is then pressed below the level of the normal plane of the cover and is retained in this position against a member 7 of the crate or the like by the resilience of the sheet. A peg 10 may project through an aperture in the channel 4 and may be pierced to enable a seal to be attached. Apertures are provided at each end adjacent the edges 2 to permit the crate to be lifted by its end frame members.
