Abstract

634,607. Semi-rotary engines. GES. DER L. VON ROLL'SCHEN EISENWERKE AKT.-GES. Oct. 21, 1947, No. 28152. Convention date, April 26, 1939. [Class 110(ii)] The engine comprises one or more pistons 4, 5, movable relatively to a casing 3, and throttling means for the working-fluid supply and exhaust lines. In Fig. 1 the casing 3 is keyed to a driven shaft 2, the pistons 4, 5 being stationary and secured to a housing 6 containing fluid supply and exhaust lines 7, 8 for working cylinders 12, 13. As shown, working-fluid will force open the pivoted valve 9, act on a partition 11 and rock over the casing 3, cylinder 13 being exhausted through the line 8 until a valve 10 gradually throttles the end of line 8. The flow through lines 7, 8 is then reversed and the casing moved anti-clockwise. Packings 14 seal the peripheries of the pistons. The casing may be locked in any intermediate position. In Fig. 4 a pair of pistons 18 are keyed to the driven shaft, and the casing is stationary. The supply and exhaust lines.25 are throttled by means of a flange 27 on the end of a piston, through holes 29. Fig. 6 shows a further arrangement in which a single-acting piston 36 is allowed to move back into its cylinder 37, upon release of fluid pressure through a line 38, through the action of a counter-weight 35 or a spring. A perforated flange 39 co-acts with the end of the fluid supply and exhaust line 38. The driven shaft 33 may actuate a throttle valve 32, or other mechanisms. In a drive using two pistons acting in opposite directions. separate driving fluids could be used for the pistons.
