Abstract

151,663. Vickers, Ltd., and Pearson, R. J. A. March 25, 1919. Piston valves.-A multiple-way piston valve, particularly applicable for use with hydraulic machinery, has a spacer tube fitted between a shoulder on the valve spindle and a cup-leather fitted on the reduced end of said spindle, said leather being adapted to co-operate with an open-ended perforated exhaust sleeve mounted in the casing. The larger part b<2> of the valve spindle has two sets of holes b<4>, b<5> preferably graduated in size and set in spiral or staggered formation, adapted when one set is moved past a cup-leather g, held in position by a perforated sleeve d, to permit fluid entering at m to pass the passage n. Fluid flows from passage n into the exhaust l<1> when the piston h is moved so as to uncover the holes e<1> in the sleeve e. The holes in the valve spindle and sleeve may be drilled obliquely or at an angle to the longitudinal axis to reduce scouring to a minimum, and the packings may be arranged so that equal pressures act on each side of the lips as they pass the ports.
