Abstract

190,248. Spence, W. L. Sept. 17, 1921. Clutches, friction. -Relates to hydraulic clutches &c. and consists primarily in the use with two helically - grooved pump elements of opposite hand of external sliding sleeve means or internal piston valve means for controlling the flow. The clutch illustrated comprises grooved driving and driven members A, C, inlet and outlet ports B, D, and an external controlling- sleeve E. The ports D may be in the member A and be controlled by an internal piston valve. For heavier duties, the hydraulic pressure may be used to expand a flattened and curved tube of the Bourdon type acting as a clutch member, or to operate a suitable form of friction clutch mounted over the member C. Specification 152,767, [Class 110 (i), Centrifugal and screw fans &c.], is referred to.
