Abstract

Combined fixed and moving cylinder pumps; regulating delivery by bye-passes; regulating delivery by varying power of motor.-In a pump of the kind comprising two ported pistons 2, 3 reciprocating at right angles to each other, the outer one in a fixed casing 1 and the inner one inside the outer one, the shaft 5 carrying the actuating eccentric 4 engaging the piston 3 is driven by a shaft 16 which is coupled at one end to the shaft 5 by a clutch 17 and at the other end to a driving motor. The shaft 16 has a tapered journal 19 pressed against the end of the bearing, 18 by a spring 20. A bye-pass channel 23 between the inlet 13 and delivery 12 is normally closed by a valve 24 carried by a diaphragm 25. When the pressure in the pump is excessive, it acts on the inner face of the diaphragm through a port 26 and opens the valve 24 against the action of a spring 27. Inlet and delivery channels 15, 14 are formed in the shaft 5. In another form, the inlet port is near the driving end of the shaft 5, so that the stuffing- box 21 may be dispensed with. The pump may be driven by an hydraulic motor 29, Fig. 5, driven by pressure oil admitted by a pipe 30 controlled by a valve 24. This valve is carried by a diaphragm 25 open to the pump delivery pressure through a port 12, so that when the pressure is excessive the supply of oil to the motor is reduced.
