Abstract

Cam-actuated pumps; regulating delivery by opening and closing suction and delivery valves; valves, arrangement of.-A pump comprises a rotating cylinder A with an inclined end surface engaging a sliding piston B with a similar end surface. Rotation of the cylinder A causes the piston B to move to the left so that liquid is drawn into the space between the inclined surfaces through an inlet port O controlled by the cylinder A. The delivery stroke of the piston is effected by a spring &c. R, the liquid being delivered through another port 0 controlled by the cylinder A. The piston is prevented from rotating by a fixed pin C engaging a slot D in the piston. By angularly adjusting the piston relatively to the cylinder A, the output may be varied from maximum to zero. By adjusting the piston through 180‹, the direction of rotation of the cylinder A may be reversed without changing the direction of flow of the liquid. A doubleacting form comprises two cylinders A on the same shaft and a piston with the inclined ends between them. Specification 148,560, [Class 111, Sewage &c.], is referred to.
