Abstract
646,135. Reciprocating pumps; gas compressors. MONOYER, M., and ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTION D'ENSIVAL SOC. ANON. April 8, 1947, No. 9321. Convention date, April 16, 1946. [Classes 8(i) and 102(i)] In a pumping system comprising a differential-piston hydraulic pressure transformer in combination with a centrifugal pump 76, the driving liquid from the latter is led periodically to the opposite Working faces of double-acting driving pistons 82, 83 all of equal diameter and the same or a different liquid is led to the high pressure pump cylinders 88, 90 of different diameter by a rotary distributor 81 which is actuated independently of the movement of the driving pistons. Each. differential piston comprises pump pistons 84, 85; 86, 87; reciprocable in co-axial cylinders 88, 89; 90, 91 respectively and disposed on each side of a central driving piston 82, 83 respectively. The pump pistons are preferably parallel and half of them 84 are of a larger diameter than the other half 86, the two sizes being spaced alternately around the central distributor which is driven through epicyclic gearing by an electric motor 95 which also drives the centrifugal pump. The latter receives liquid from a reservoir 77 through a filter 78 and delivers it to an annular cavity 80 from which it is distributed to the driving pistons and through passages 84a, 86a and valves 84b, 86b to the pump cylinders. For use in operating an hydraulic press or the like, the centrifugal pump 76 first delivers direct to the common main 70<SP>1</SP> through pipe 94 until pressure in the main increases and the valve 71 is closed. The liquid then passes through the transformer and is delivered by the larger pistons 84, 85 through pipe 92 and pressure operated valve 72 until the pressure in the main is sufficient to open a valve 73 when the liquid is then delivered by the smaller pistons 86, 87 and the larger pistons are immobilized. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a transformer using a gaseous driving fluid and also refers to its use as a gas compressor operated either by liquid or gas. A transformer having multiple solid differential pistons with the pump pistons of equal diameter is also described, the liquid being led from the distributor, which is driven by a separate motor. to the pump cylinders through external pipes. A single solid differential piston transformer is also described. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
