Abstract

395,154. Pistons. HARALSON, C. C., Box 384, Olney, Texas, U.S.A. June 29, 1932, No. 18423. [Class 122 (i).] For operating gate valves from a distance each valve is fitted with a double-acting piston working in a cylinder connected to a pressure supply 21 and exhaust 26 by piping fitted with pressure gauges 20 and a series of independently actuated valves. The piston is in two parts connected by a short rod 5 each part being fitted with a packing ring 8 and a pair of opposed hat-leathers 10 held in place by detachable plates 13. The closed end of the cylinder is hemispherical in shape and is provided with an internal flange 15 to act as a stop. The lower detachable end is correspondingly shaped and has a tubular stop projection 17 steadied by a spider 16.
