631,411. Vehicle coupling. SOC. POUR L'UNION DES TRANSPORTS FERROVIARIES ET ROUTIERS SOC. ANON. July 7, 1947, No. 17879. Convention date, July 29, 1946. [Class 103 (v)] In a coupling for a trailer, the tow bar 1, which as shown is of the type designed to run up a ramp on the tractor, is linked with the rear frame 2, 3 of the trailer by connecting rods 5 and 7 in such a way that the tow bar tends to swing to the retracted position shown in Fig. 3, under the action of gravity. In this position the tow bar 1 is secured by the pivoted hook 10 engaging the pin 14. The tow bar is raised to the position shown in Fig. 4, preparatory to its full elevation on engagement with the ramp on the tractor, whereupon the spigot 16 engages the socket 17 on the trailer frame. To obtain increased tilting of the trailer, a cover 17a may be placed over the socket 17 so that the rear of the trailer is elevated as the tow bar runs up the ramp.
