Abstract

Coated stone aggregate for use in the surfacing of roads is prepared by treating the aggregate with a bituminous emulsion and then mixing it with hydrated lime or other powder capable of forming a hydraulic cement and with a liquid bituminous binder. The aggregate may be dried before mixing with the emulsion, which may consist of caustic soda, liquid rosin, casein, solvent p naphtha, tar and water. The binder may be ordinary road tar and mixing is carried out at a temperature not exceeding 300 DEG F.
